The Australian National Training Authority recognised ASIC as the National Seafood Industry Training Advisory Body in July 1997. The ITAB operates under the name 'Seafood Training Australia'. Seafood Training Australia's primary task is to manage the introduction of competency based training through the development of Training Packages for the Australian Seafood industry. It is the Industry Training Advisory Body for this industry.

    The GTA Partnership Award was established in 2003 to raise the profile of group training organisations (GTOs) with careers advisers and to encourage more collaborative partnerships at the local level. The award process identifies effective and innovative collaboration between a school or school cluster and a group training organisation. Schools nominating for the award need to outline the collaboration, the planning, implementation, challenges, monitoring for improvement and positive outcomes (for students and others involved) of their partnership. The nomination form is available to download from the website.
