This report extends the analysis presented in 2004 National Drug Strategy Household Survey: First Results by providing more detailed information on drug use prevalence, drug-related behaviours and incidents, and support for drug-related policy and legislation. The report features analysis relating to young people, reflecting the inclusion in the 2004 survey of 12-13 year-olds, and new material on mental and physical health. This report, along with others in the Drug Statistics Series, will be a useful resource for policy-makers, planners and researchers interested in drug-related matters.

This paper provides the national reporting of benchmark data on reading, writing and numeracy for 2004 and follows on from earlier editions of the National Report, which published data for 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The benchmarks that underpin the reporting of student achievement describe nationally agreed minimum acceptable standards for aspects of literacy and numeracy at particular year levels.

As part of the 2003 survey of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), students were asked about their familiarity with ICT, principally about their computer use. This report examines whether access to computers for students is equitable across countries and students groups; how students use ICT and what their attitudes are towards ICT; the relationship between students' access to and use of ICT and their performance in PISA 2003; and the implication for educational policy.

CensusAtSchool is a non compulsory education project conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). It is a free Internet based data collection and analysis project being conducted throughout 2008. Students respond to questions of interest about themselves by completing the CensusAtSchool online questionnaire. The questionnaire response data is then released back to teachers and students providing real, relevant data, for use with the supporting activities across the curriculum in all states and territories.
