Category:  Key Government Priorities and Activities  Specific student groups

The Country Areas Programme (CAP) is administered as part of the Australian Government funding provided through the Schools Assistance (Learning Together - Achievement Through Choice) Act 2004 for the 2005-2008 quadrennium. Students attending primary and secondary schools in geographically isolated areas can be educationally disadvantaged by geographic isolation. The Australian Government recognises this by targeting funding to states and the Northern Territory under the Country Areas Programme (CAP) to assist them to enhance the learning outcomes for students in geographically isolated areas so that their learning outcomes match those of students in metropolitan areas. The government and non-government education authorities in each state and the Northern Territory are responsible for the detailed administration of the programme.
